The trustees' current policy is to consider a grant application for the purchase of private hearing aids where the applicant has:
- visited their GP and requested a referral to NHS audiology before considering private purchase (the NHS now provide branded, digital, blue tooth enabled aids)
- obtained hearing aids through the NHS audiology and able to demonstrate that the aids are unsuitable
- undergone a hearing test, a copy of which must be provided with the application form
Applicants will need to provide:
- evidence to support that a commercially available aid is more suitable because of specific hearing requirements and lifestyle needs. This does not include cosmetic reasons - for example an invisible, completely in the ear aid
- product details and cost as provided by a reputable Audiologist/Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser. A grant contribution of up to 100% may be awarded.
Applications may be made on any change in prescription or circumstance, or provided five years have lapsed since any earlier grant was awarded (hearing aids generally come with a five-year warranty and aftercare.)
