At the Baily Thomas Provident Fund, we recognise that companionship and support are vital to maintaining wellbeing and independence.
The companionship grant is designed to provide help to allow beneficiaries to stay socially connected, live independently and reduce loneliness.
The Baily Thomas Provident Fund will consider funding up to £4,500 per annum for companionship services. These include:
- Companionship and befriending. Whether it’s having a chat or enjoying an outing.
- Light domestic tasks. From cooking and cleaning to help with weekly shopping.
- Respite care. If you’re a carer, the grant can also be used to provide respite care, allowing you to run errands or take some much-needed time for yourself during the day.
The grant is not restricted by provider, meaning you can choose a registered home care provider of your choice that best suits your needs and preferences. The trust’s policy is to pay the home care provider directly for any care provided as part of the grant.
Volunteer befrienders
If you’re seeking friendly conversations and outings only, you can request a volunteer from a pool of ex-Mansfield Brewery colleagues. You can find out more about the volunteer befriending service here. Alternatively, you can select a home care provider of your choice.
How to apply

Discretion of the trustee
Please note that all grants are awarded at the discretion of the trustees. The trustees will carefully consider your application based on the information you provide.
Please ensure a grant is in place and approved before any purchases are made. The trustees are unlikely to pay a retrospective claim unless there were exceptional circumstances meaning it would have been difficult to submit a grant application in advance.
